Ren and Carlton,
Just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of your families during this time. So sorry to hear about your Dad. He will be surely missed in the community. We should be comforted to know that our parents are "together" and enjoying the togetherness that they all used to enjoy so much. I have such fond memories of your Mom and Dad!  Love, Karen Ripple Lancaster

So sad to learn of your father passing  but would like to share my experiences with your father as a young girl on her first job in the Columbus Co. Court system in 1970. He was always helpful, giving of his time to encourage  and I always felt better after a talking  with him. A true professional leader in all contacts BUT a very kind gentleman.  He continued to share his smiles and kind words  to all in the system. He was known as a wise man and viewed as a cut above many in his profession because he was honest and  fair to those that worked with him and those he represented. He will be missed by many.

Eternal rest to a very dear friend of High Meadows community.  It was a pleasure to  know Ed and Grace as they enjoyed their beautiful home in Alleghany County. I know it has been many years now since Ed  was here but I shall always remembr his gracious smile and enduring personality.
Peace and fond remembrances. Suzanne  Mellow-Irwin

Carlton and Ren,

I read about Ed's passing in the Star News on Monday.  I just want to tell you guys and the rest of your family how sorry that I am to hear about this.  I last spoke to Ed, maybe a couple years ago when I was in Whiteville and saw him on the street near your office.  It was always great to see him and talk to him about old times in Whiteville.  I know that my mother surely welcomed him into Heaven.  They were certainly great friends and all of us that attended the Methodist Church for many years.
I remember Carlton, when my mother passed away in 2003, you were a great help to me in settling her estate, and your Dad was also.  I remember your Dad doing her Will and never charged a cent.  Again, please accept my deepesst sympathy in your loss.

So sorry to learn of Ed's death.   Ed was always very polite, friendly and never gave any indication of anger or ill will.  He always had time to speak to whomever acknowledged him.  To know him was to love him and I know he will be missed. I for one will miss seeing him and Carlton at Dale's.  My prayers go out to the family.

Carlton,

All of us have lost a good friend who served as a great example of the type of lawyer we should all aspire to be. He taught us all a lot about professionalism, and helped us understand that we can vigorously advocate for our clients, but still be curteous. We will all miss him. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Carlton and Wren,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.  I knew your father and your mother from early childhood and I always had great respect for them even when I was a little girl.  Your father was a man to look up to and admire.  His gentle spirit was always present wherever he was.

Carlton what a full life your dad lived. He is certainly part of the greatest generation in many ways. He will be remembered for his integrity, the honesty of his convictions
and the wonderful family he leaves behind. My dad told me a long time ago what a good man your dad was.
I'm proud to have known him and will be forever grateful for his sacrifice so that I can be free.
My best to you and and all your family.

Carlton,
I empathize with you over the loss of your father. I know he must have been the kind of man that you were proud to call "father." I say that because I know he exemplified in his professional life the qualities that make a real "lawyer" -- strength of conviction, concern for his clients, a community leader, a mentor, and a commitment to seeing that justice was upheld and never perverted by the powerful, influential, or those who trample over the rights of others.  His passing is a loss to us all who knew him and his contemporaries.  As you grieve, take time to rejoice in his living and the gift of his companionship in your life. I still do that as I remember my father.  Our prayers are with you.
