Joseph Paul Gore, Sr.
Mr. Joseph Paul Gore, Sr. 76, of Whiteville died Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Wake Medical Center, Raleigh. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Samuel Pinkney Gore and Grace Lee Long Gore.
Mr. Gore was an agricultural teacher at Williams Township School for 34 years where he also attended. He was a graduate of NC State. He was an outstanding athlete and won the Jiggs Power's Award in 1954. He was a member of the Whiteville United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the US Army.
His funeral service will be conducted 10:30 am Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Whiteville United Methodist Church by Rev. Paul Stallsworth. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. A private burial will be in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Harold Marlowe, Dave Smith, Pebo Collier, Craig Stanley, Michael Stephens, Lucian Stephens, Jr., Will Scott and Jeff Cunningham.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lyda Sue Stephens Gore; a son, Joseph Paul Gore, Jr. and wife Crystal of Whiteville; a daughter, April Susan Gore Smith and husband, Stephen of Wake Forest; three grandchildren, Stephen Hunter Smith, Richard Grant Smith and Marly Elizabeth Gore; a brother, Samuel Gore and wife, Marjorie of Bethel; a sister, Carol Stanley of Garner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Stephens.
