Joyce Zoch

Joyce Elaine (Henson) Zoch, 53, went to be with the Lord on Sunday February 26, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born on November 01, 1958, in Watersedge, Baltimore, Maryland. She is the daughter of the late John Elbert Henson and Betty Rose (Hammonds) Stimmell of Seaford, Delaware. Both her Parents were born in Whiteville, N.C., and her Grandma, Vera Mae (Hooks) Hammonds, who passed in 1979, owned a store in Whiteville. Joyce's Grandfather, Willie Vance Hammonds, who died in 1963, was a prior newspaper editor for the local Whiteville Paper, The News Reporter. She was a loyal housewife and owner operator of the family farm, Dixie Line Farm, Inc., in Seaford. She was a special person, a Southern lady, and was liked and loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. Joyce attended Christ Lutheran Church in Seaford, Delaware and always claimed her Baptist faith. Joyce loved genealogy and helping others discover their family heritage. Joyce was the proud founder and first president of Delaware's "Caleb Ross", United Daughters of The Confederacy, Chapter #2635 in Seaford. Joyce was instrumental in researching and erecting Delaware's first and only Confederate Monument, in Memory of Delawareans who served the South, which is now standing at the Marvel Museum in Georgetown, Delaware. Joyce enjoyed family travels to our many American Civil War battlefields, where she participated in the several parades and reenactments, and attended many UDC functions like Spring Board, in Richmond, Virginia. Joyce was a member of Seaford's "Mary Vining" Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter #216, where she lately served as Delaware's state registrar. Joyce was a member of the First Families of Mississippi tracing her ancestors back prior to our American Revolution. Joyce was a member of The Mayflower Society of Delaware, through her ancestor George Soules, who signed the Mayflower Compact, and who's many descendants are buried in Old Soles Cemetery, in which, Joyce installed the Old Soles Cemetery sign located in Tabor City, N.C. She loved American history and her Southern Heritage. Joyce was proceeded in death by three siblings, Wanda Jean Henson, of N.C. in 1953, Deborah Irene (Henson) Miller of Del. in 2004, and Richard Thomas Henson, of Florida, whom died in 1994. She is survived by her husband, John Jacob Zoch, Sr. of Seaford, Delaware, a daughter, Jessica Lynn Zoch and son, John Jacob Zoch, Jr., both living at home, three step-daughters, April Marie and Derik Paul Callaway of Seaford, DE., Rayna Fay and Kevin John McGill of Milton, DE., Mallory Renee and Joshua Stephen Read, of Seaford, DE. Two brothers, Gregory Keith Henson and wife, Darlene (Gilley), of Hartford County, Maryland, and William Samuel Henson, Sr. and wife, Delores (Buckaloo), of Cannon, Delaware. Two sisters, Loretta Cheryl Birchfield and husband, Jerry Wayne Birchfield, of Dundalk, Maryland, and Joann Henson and partner, Mark Jacob Wheatley, of Bridgeville, Delaware. Joyce is also survived by her aunt, Shirley Ann (Hammonds) Prince and husband Hurshel, of Whiteville, and one uncle, Robert Dale Henson, Sr., of Tabor City, N.C. Her funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 3, 2012, 2:00pm at Peacock's Chapel in the Pines. The family will receive friends 1-2pm prior to service. Interment will be in Western Prong Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial contributions to the Delaware Confederate Monument fund, 9455 Airport Road, Seaford, Del. 19973, or the American Cancer Society's, Baltimore Hope Lodge, in memory of Joyce Zoch, 636 West Lexington Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201
