Rev. Leland Etheridge 87, of Whiteville died Sunday, September 11, 2016 in Liberty Commons. He was born March 20, 1929 in Columbus County, the son of the late Willie B. Etheridge and Lola Register Etheridge. His wife, Hazel Watts Etheridge preceded him in death. Rev. Etheridge was the former pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Ash Freewill Baptist Church and Shallotte Baptist Church. He was also formerly employed with the Coca Cola Co. in Whiteville. He was a veteran having served in the US Air Force.

He is survived by two sons, Audie Etheridge of Whiteville and Delane Etheridge of Whiteville; three daughters, Elaine Shephard of Whiteville, Vicky Ward of Whiteville and Jean Johnson of Nakina; two brothers, Woodie Etheridge of Whiteville and Bailey Etheridge of Shallotte; a sister, Shirley Jernigan of Holden Beach; grand children Penny Shephard, Denise Price, Rusty Shephard, Scott Shephard, Renee Price, Jason Etheridge, Alicia Helms, Brandy Johnson, Sophia Jacobs; twenty -one great grandchildren.

His funeral service will be 3:00 pm Wednesday September 14, 2016 at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church by Rev. Jamie Ward. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

His family will receive friends 6:30 - 8:30 pm Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Peacock Funeral Home.
