Charles (Charlie) Blair Wolfe, 60, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 23, 2009. He was born in Altoona, PA on April 21, 1948, the son of the late Tom E. Wolfe and Susan Feathers Wolfe. After graduation from high school, Charlie and his life-long friend, Don Ketrow, signed up to serve in the U.S. Navy. His four years in the Navy were spent in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Oceana Naval Station in Virginia Beach, VA where he met and soon married Glenda Evans at Trinity Baptist Church in 1969. They moved to Whiteville in 1970, where he was employed at DuPont for ten years and C.B. Drug. At this time he also served with the NC National Guard and followed with two years as Sgt. in the U.S. Army. He, along with his father-in-law, Gene Evans, and his brother-in-law, Don Evans, owned and operated Eastern Wholesale in Whiteville for three years. He retired from Coca-Cola in Whiteville as warehouse manager in 2007 and soon ventured to the Bass Pro Shop in Myrtle Beach and was employed there for less than a year. Charlie loved the community of Whiteville and actively enjoyed being involved in many various activities whether it was being the Easter bunny at Optimist Easter egg hunts, playing Santa Claus, or as a cow emcee at a youth fundraiser at Trinity Baptist Church. He loved golfing and was an avid fIsherman all his life. He especially took pleasure in teaching his grandson, Evan, how to fish. Charlie was also an active member of the Whiteville High School Band Boosters and Athletic Association for many years. He also spent 15 years running the concession stand for Dixie Youth Baseball at Optimist Park. Charlie was an active and faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as former deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. He will be remembered as a very devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved life and people and always enjoyed creating fun and laughter wherever he went. He especially loved family gatherings and celebrating special events. Charlie was also a faithful and loyal member of the Whiteville Optimist Club for over 20 years. In 1996, he was awarded with a lifetime membership. Charlie is survived by his wife of 39 years, Glenda Evans Wolfe, two daughters, Renee Wolfe Horne and husband, Chuck of Whiteville and Kelly Wolfe Young of Whiteville. He was blessed with one special and dear grandson, Evan Riley Young. Additional survivors are one sister, Susan Wolfe Mock and husband, Bob, of Roaring Spring, PA; one brother Tom E. Wolfe, Jr. and wife, Sarah, of Altoona, PA; one brother-in-law, Don Evans and Shelia McCumbee of Surfside Beach, SC; and his lifelong friend, Don Ketrow and wife, Anna Mae, of Duncansville, PA. Also, two special nieces, Nicole Evans Johnson and husband, Michael, of Raleigh, NC; and Michelle Mock Croft and husband, Dave, of Claysburg, P A; and one special nephew, Justin Mock and wife, Heather, of Fort Hood, TX. Charlie's celebration of life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Thursday, March 26 at 3:30 pm. Conducted by Rev. Steve Bailey. Burial at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive friends at 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 25 at Peacock Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Glenn Batten, Stewart Clark, Robert Callihan, Sammy Nobles, Jeff Blackwell and Roger Teachey. Honorary pallbearers will be Joyful Men's Sunday school class and Whiteville Optimist Club. The family would like to thank all the many friends, neighbors and loved ones for all their many prayers, cards, visits, gifts of food and flowers over these last eight months.
