Alex Dakota Sutherland 26, entered this life on August 29, 1992 and went on to be with the King, Saturday, January 26, 2019. Alex, formerly of the Buckhead community, resided in Collegeville, PA.
Alex was a 2012 graduate of Southeastern Early College where he earned an associate degree in college transfer. He then went on to Bacone University in Oklahoma where he obtained a degree in Applied Science. He continued his educational journey at Palmetto School where he received his license as a Dental Assistant. Alex was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He also was a part of the Waccamaw Siouan Drum Circle as well as the North Carolina Native American Youth Organization. Alex was a devoted volunteer at the annual Waccamaw Siouan Powow. He was a recipient of the United Tribes of North Carolina J.L. Young Memorial scholarship and received a Certificate of Appreciation from the NC Department of Commerce for outstanding performance and lasting contribution. He was employed by Keystone Pharmacy in Lansdale, Pennsylvania as a pharmacy technician. His most recent endeavor was his role as the stage manager and actor in The Ultimate Christmas Show by Reed Martin this past Christmas where he received a standing ovation.
Alex was not an ordinary young man. He was radical about the life he lived. He was known by friends near and far. If you ask anyone their stories are the same. His love was unconditional and he loved others unconditionally.
He is survived by his father, James Sutherland, his mother, Pamela Young Jacobs and Velton Jacobs of Bolton; brothers, Dustin Sutherland of Bolton, Coty Sutherland and wife, Shannon of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Summer Jacobs and Jasmine Jacobs both of Pembroke, Faith Jacobs of Bolton; uncles, Mark Sutherland and wife, Carol, David Jacobs all of Bolton, Roger Young and wife, Aimee of Lillington; aunt, Betty Young of Pennsylvania; nephews, Liam Sutherland and Oliver Sutherland; maternal grandmother, Judy Bass and husband, J.C. of Clinton; paternal grandparents, Marie and Monroe Spaulding of Bolton.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jimmy Lee Young and special uncle, Michael Young.
His funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 3, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church in Bolton. Burial will be in the Young Family Cemetery.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to his service at New Hope Baptist Church.
