Boyd Thomas Register, 82, of Nakina died at his home Saturday, May 5th, 2018. He was born April 5th, 1936, in Columbus County, the son of the late George Fletcher Register and Minnie Gore Register.
Boyd was a long-time Deacon and active member of Gore’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He spent the majority of his early working life in the retail dairy business before transitioning to his true love, farming. Upon retirement as a full-time farmer, he began his final career, “garden farmer”, supplying many in the area with sweet potatoes and fall peas. He will be remembered fondly for his engaging personality, honesty, work ethic, and avid love of stock car racing, and hunting.
He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 61 years, Marie “Mac” McCumbee Register. His love for her is best expressed in his own words to her the day before his death. “I won the lottery the day I got you.” Sons, Jeff Register and wife, Cindy, of Whiteville, Rodney Register and wife, Heather, of Nakina. Jeff and Rodney each provided him, as a father, with a sense of accomplishment as a job well-done. He loved his daughter-in-laws as his own and always inquired, “How’s my girl?” Grandsons, Andrew Register of Nakina, and Matthew Register of Nakina were one of his greatest joys in the later years of his life. He loved both of them very much, and was so proud of the young men they have become. Sisters, Virginia “Cricket” Gore of Nakina, Hazel “Squirrel” Dillman of Jacksonville, FL, and Audrey “Jean” Moore of Nakina. All have remained close over the years. Many nieces and nephews, each of whom were very special to him. Also, trusted and dear friends, Jerry, Justin, and Garrett Gore of Nakina.
His celebration of life service will be held Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at Gore's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Peacock Funeral Home.
