C. Rudy Cox

C. Rudy Cox 86, of Florida, formerly of Whiteville, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018.  He was born May 16, 1932 in Columbus County, the son of the late Barsey E. Cox and Mary White Cox. 

Mr. Cox was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC  and served as a deacon and many other areas of the church ministry.  Until his retirement, Rudy served as manager of the Fitness Center at the Department of Aging in Whiteville.   He served as a Chaplain for Columbus Regional Healthcare System and Shoreland Healthcare Center.  He also served as a Chaplain in the United States Army.  He served as pastor in Florida and many years with the United States Postal Service in Florida, then moved to Whiteville.  Rudy was Salutatorian of his Chadbourn graduating class of 1950.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War.  Because of his declining health in early July, 2017, Rudy went to live with his daughter, Bonnie Hamar and her husband Paul in Florida.  The family is very grateful to them, to friends, to his doctors and Hospice for their compassionate and loving care for Rudy until his homegoing, Wednesday, Aug. 22, to be with the Lord Jesus Christ whom Rudy lovingly and faithfully served. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord forevermore":  Amen! 2 Corinthians 5:8.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neil W. Cox.

He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Hamar and husband, Paul of Land O' Lakes Florida; granddaughter, Jennifer Green; great granddaughter, Audrey Ana; sisters, Dorothy Giles and husband, Woody of Yorktown, VA, Elneta Spell and husband, Bill of Leesburg, FL, Carolyn Myers of Laurinburg, NC, and Joyce Worrell of Whiteville.

 A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 9, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church by Dr. Darrin Moore.
