David James Young

Mr. David James Young, 79, of Council died on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his home.  He was born on December 7, 1938 in  Columbus County, the son of the late Henry Young and Christina Jacobs Young.

He was a member of Mt. Sinai Holiness Church, a Deacon and Ruling Elder.  He served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer of the Church Conference. 

He was a long-time and avid fisherman, a master craftsman and welder. No matter the task, he sought to deliver excellent results through unwaivering dedication, precision and relentless passion.

He was a Boilermaker with ABB Industries, Dupont, Combustion Engineer, Charlotte, NC, Alston Power, Texas, Plymouth Boilermakers,  Myrtle Cabinets, Chadbourn, NC, Federal Paper, Woodland Division, and Locke Equipment in Michigan.  He was a member of Iron Workers Union 636, Boilermakers Local 30 and International Iron Workers Union New York,

He was preceded in death by his sons, Randall Matthew Young and James Michael Young, brother, William H. Young and sisters, Missouri Jacobs and Geneva Jacobs.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara J. Young; daughters, Angela Odum of Lumberton, NC, Carla M. Young of Lake Waccamaw, NC, and Lennea Graham and husband, Scott of Council, NC; a son, David S. Young and wife, Nilda of Stratford, CT; grandchildren, Kristen Sinclair of Lumberton, NC, Randall Williams of Lumberton, NC, Joseph A. Graham of Lake Waccamaw, NC, Bailey M. Graham of Clarendon, NC, Sterling M. Graham of Council, NC, Tate Young of Council, NC, Shanna Young of Mapelwood, MN, Kheyenne Young of Stratford, CT, Keely Young of Stratford, CT; a brother, Alton Young and wife, Carolyn of Council, NC, and a sister, Arlene Moore and husband, Clayton of Bolton, NC; daughter-in-law, Lasandra Young of Council, NC; brother-in-law, Rufus Jacobs.

His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Mt. Sinai Holiness Church with Rev. Michael D. Jacobs and Rev. W.L. Ammons officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.  

His family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Mt. Sinai Holiness Church.
