Dorothy Hobbs Blanton

Dorothy Hobbs Blanton 104, of Lake Waccamaw went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, February 1, 2018 in Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, Whiteville.  She was born January 3, 1914 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Malcolm Lee Hobbs and Adeline Holmes Hobbs.  

Dorothy was a faithful and loving wife to her sweetheart of 47 years, Ben.  She loved the Lord and gave him thanks daily.  She was very thankful for everything she was blessed with and devoted her life to helping others.  Dorothy loved gardening and sharing her bounty with friends and family and is remembered by all for her delicious desserts and meals.  She was a blessing and inspiration to others. 

She is remembered with love by her daughter, Betty Blanton Furman of Yorktown, VA; a brother, James "Buster" Hobbs and wife, Betty of Holden Beach, NC; a granddaughter, Nora Clark Edwards and husband, Kevin of Suffolk, VA; great grandchildren, Michael Kevin Edwards, Jr. and wife, Kristy, Nicole Aubrey Edwards; great-great grandchildren, Abigail Lindsay Edwards and Ava Marie Edwards; nephews, Billy Hobbs, Mike Hobbs, Larry Hobbs, Jimmy Hobbs, Ronnie Hobbs, Michael Hobbs; nieces, Ann H. Ward, Carolyn H. Wayne, & Sonya H. Batten; and over sixty great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Siftley Benjamin Blanton; brothers, Ocie Hobbs, Malcolm Hobbs, Edwin Hobbs; sister, Bertie Hobbs Hockaday; nephews, Norman Hobbs and Randy Hobbs.

Her family will receive friends 1:00 - 2:00 pm Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Peacock Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Peacock's Chapel with Rev. Chuck Smith officiating.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lake Waccamaw immediately following the service.
