After a brave battle with cancer, Eleanor Hooks Heustess, 87 is now at home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She passed away on December 23, 2018.
Eleanor was born on August 14, 1931, to Hilton and Ila Hooks, who have preceded her in death. On May 27, 1950, she married the love of her life, Edgar Rufus Heustess, Jr., who passed away in 2017. Eleanor is survived by her children, Teresa Gillian (John), Cindy Creech (Nelson), Rhonda Baldwin (John), IIa Heustess, Renee DiDuro (John) and Randy Heustess (Nancy). Rufus and Eleanor were blessed with 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Tommy Hooks, Burvin Hooks and Marshall Hooks.
For most of her adult life, she lived in Hampton, Virginia, where she was a stay at home mother, who took pride in raising her children and caring for her family. She served the Lord faithfully at Central Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, a deacon's wife and a leader in the women's group.
For the past year Eleanor lived with her youngest daughter in Manassas, Virginia. She was greatly blessed by the loving care given to her by Renee's family. She enjoyed reading her Bible, crocheting, playing Farkle and painting.
The family will receive friends at 10 AM on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville, North Carolina, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM in Peacock's Chapel with Dr. Robert Heustess officiating. Burial will follow the service in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
