Geraldine G. (Garrell) Blackburn

Mrs. Geraldine G. Blackburn 85, of Whiteville died Friday, July 21, 2017 in Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Lifecare Center.  She was born May 28, 1932 in Columbus County the daughter of the late David Lee Garrell and Mary Emiline Hunt Garrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband,  John Robert Blackburn; brothers, D.L. Garrell and Jerry Garrell. 

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.  She was a 1950 graduate of Williams Township School and served as class president.  She was the first female school bus driver in Columbus County.

She is survived by a son , John Robert Blackburn, Jr. and wife, Brandy of Wilmington; two daugthers, Annette B. Powell and husband, Pat of Whiteville and Robin B. Holt of Whiteville; a sister,  Irene Santee and husband, Murray of Abbottsburg; grandchildren, Amos Holt, Brooke Campbell, Faith Cribb, Libby Willoughby, Clint Campbell, Heather Black and Aria Blackburn; great grandchildren, A. J. Willoughby, Kasey Willoughby, Emma Cribb, Conner Cribb, Kira Holt, Sarah Cribb, Caleb Campbell,  Jax Black, Cooper Campbell.

Her funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Monday, July 24, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Speight officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City.  

Her family will receive friends 6:00- 8:00 pm Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Peacock Funeral Home.
