John Pinkney Cartrette, 86, of Brunswick, joined his Lord and Savior Friday, September 13, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was born November 6, 1932 in Columbus County the son of the late Henry Otto Cartrette and Margaret Gore Cartrette.
He was a long time member of Brunswick Baptist Church. Mr. Cartrette was an Engineman 3rd Class in United States Navy serving two World Tours and in active war times in Korea and Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6066 in Nakina, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry Coval Cartette, John Dorman Cartrette, Raford Cartrette; sister, Fanny Norris.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Annie Mae Ward Cartrette of the home; son, Johnny Vegas Cartrette and wife, Tracy of Monroe, NC; daughter, Teresa Ann Cartrette of Chadbourn; grandchildren, Kristie Salmon, Tessa Cheek, Chelsey Cartrette, John Cole Cartrette; great grandchild, Terran Cheek.
His graveside service with military honors will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Columbus Memorial Park by Rev. Williard McPherson.
The family will receive friends 2:00-3:00 pm Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Peacock Funeral Home.
