Obituary

Mr. Lewis Clifton Burchette, 85, of Hallsboro, died Monday, September 2, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born September 30, 1933 in Columbus County, the son of the late Lewis and Juanita Creech Burchette.

Cliff attended Lee’s McRae College from 1951-1953.  During school his hobbies included playing football, baseball and basketball.  He was drafted into the United State Army February 1954 and was discharged after serving his country in February 1956.  After returning home he began working with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad in Florence, SC where he met a beautiful girl who became his wife on August 3, 1957.  In December of 1956, he accepted a job with Federal Paper formerly known as Riegelwood Paper Company.  He retired after 39 years in 1995.  He was also an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Burchette.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian Lewis Burchette of the home; two daughters, Vicki Davis of Florence, SC, Tama Justice and husband, Roger of Whiteville; grandchildren, Caitlan Justice, Bryson Davis, and McKenzie Davis; sister-in-law, Carolyn Burchette; several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 pm Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Hallsboro United Methodist Church by Rev. Robert Hankins.

The family will receive friends 1:00-2:30 pm Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Hallsboro United Methodist Church.
