Miriam (Ray) Hughes

Miriam Ray Hughes, 77, of Nakina, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. She was born August 8, 1942 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Edison Hugh Ray and Frances Benton Ray.

She was preceded in death by parents and a brother, Thomas Melvin Ray.

She is survived her husband, James Madison Hughes a daughter, Kelly Hughes of Nakina; two sons, Eddie O'Berry Gerald and wife, Demetta of Aberdeen, Stevie Ray Gerald and Sharon of Loris, SC; four grandchildren, Joshua Gerald, Ray Gerald, Cody Sammons and India Sammons; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Anthony Hugh Ray and wife, Janice, Edison Hugh Ray, Jr. and wife, Jeanette, Glen Ray and wife, Rebecca all of Old Dock; two sisters, Frances Livingston and Howard of Loris, SC, Margie Johnson of Texas; sisters-in-law, Hilda Ray of Whiteville and Betty Hughes Clark of Old Dock.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Palmyra Baptist Church by Rev. John Roberson.  Burial will be in the Palmyra Church Cemetery.  

Her family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Peacock Funeral Home.
