Vernon Ward

Vernon Ward 76, of Whiteville died Sunday, January 27, 2019.  He was born November 16, 1942 in Columbus County, the son of the late Cutler and Mamie Jones Ward.  

He was the owner and operator of Vernon’s Electric Motor Service.  Vernon and Sarah, his wife of 56 years, served the customers of Columbus and surrounding counties for 43 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Thompson Ward; son, Benny Ward of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Annie Mae Cartrette and husband, John of Brunswick, Betty Faye Beking of Nakina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Woodrow, Horace, Hubert, Lonnie, Rosevelt, and Rowland; sisters, Rilda Ward Hardee and Geneva Ward Robinson.

His graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park by Rev. Paul Lambert.

His family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 pm Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Peacock Funeral Home.
