Zadie Jacobs Obituary

Zadie Young Jacobs 88, the daughter of the late James Melton Young and Carrie Lee Spaulding Young, answered God's call on Sunday, April 22, 2018 about 1:30 pm at her home in Buckhead, NC.  Zadie was born August 10, 1929 in the St. James Community, Lake Waccamaw, NC.  Zadie was united in Matrimony to the late Robert Lloyd Jacobs on January 4, 1948.  To this union four children were born.

Upon joining New Hope Baptist Church in March 1951, she became a member of the choir where she sang each Sunday until her health failed her.

Employment life for Zadie was in cut and sewing factories in Whiteville, NC.  In the early 60's all family members moved to Los Angeles, California for employment.  While there Zadie became employed with Mattel Toys as a maker of Barbie Dolls.  After retiring from the factory life Zadie became employed with Moore Brother's Farm until 1993.  Zadie loved and enjoyed her Waccamaw Siouan Tribal Community.  She and her sister Agnes were dedicated cookers and workers at earlier Tribal gatherings and Pow-Wow's, dragging their children along with them while teaching them the ancestral ways.

We could write about Zadie's dedication, love for her community and people, her desire to make sure that any church function everyone got their fill of homemade chicken and pastry, but what she would really want to tell us all is to truly love one another, put God first in our lives, and to live under his teachings daily because one day I want to see you again.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda F. Moore and husband, William; daughter-in-law, Jackie J. Mitchell and husband, Donnie; grandchildren, Noel Moore, Joel "J.D." Moore and wife, Kim, Tiffany Spaulding, Paige McDowell and husband, Scott, Aaron Jacobs and wife, Alicia, Sky J.
