Betty Sue (Russell) Monds

Betty Sue Russell Monds, age 86, died Thursday, May 12, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 17, 1935 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Jack and Iris Connelly Russell and the widow of Angus Hood Monds.

She is survived by her son, Robert Monds and his wife, Hannah of Kingsport, TN; her daughters, Karen Hatch and her husband, Palmer of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Julie Ward and her husband, Dan of Clarkton, NC; her grandchildren, Jessica Loburk, Victoria Wessell, Alston Hatch, Emily Morris, Abby Ward and Elizabeth Monds; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler Loburk, Jozie Wessell, Angus Wessell, Will Hatch, Hallie Hatch and Blakely Morris.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Nicky Russell.

Betty was a member of the Whiteville First Presbyterian Church. She attended Highsmith-Rainey School of nursing and was a nurse at Whiteville Apparel for 22 years. “MuMu” was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family.

Her visitation will be held Monday, May 16, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Peacock Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 3:00 PM in the Clarkton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Barrett Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Ward, Alston Hatch, Bryan Wessell, Kris Loburk, Tyler Loburk, Sean Morris, Joey Alexander and Russell Ammons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Team Jozie, 7101 Creedmore Rd., Suite 130, Raleigh, NC 27613.
