Byron Allen Bullard, Sr. Obituary
Byron Allen Bullard, Sr., of Kernersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to family, faith, service, and his beloved Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Born on June 20, 1937, in Bladenboro, North Carolina, Byron was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by his three older sisters, Maxine Merritt, Elizabeth Goforth, and Elsie Allred. A talented athlete, he earned a baseball scholarship to Wake Forest University, where he proudly graduated and became a lifelong Deacon fan. His passion for Wake Forest football and basketball endured throughout his life as a faithful Deacon Club member, cheering on his team until health challenges kept him from attending games in person.
Byron proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he played on the winning team of the 1960 Army Baseball Championship, a memory he cherished. Following his service, he built a successful career in the trucking industry, retiring as General Manager from Carolina Kenworth in Greensboro.
A man of quiet faith and steadfast character, Byron was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and, more recently, attended Main Street United Methodist Church, where he was surrounded by caring friends and fellowship. In his retirement, he found joy and purpose in volunteering at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and the local food bank, tending his garden, and spending meaningful time with family and friends.
Byron is survived by his son, Byron Allen Bullard, Jr., daughter-in-law Melinda Bullard, grandson Byron Allen Bullard III, granddaughter Kelsey Alden Newberry and her husband Tyler Newberry, and his treasured great-granddaughter Charlotte Olivia Newberry.
Byron’s life was marked by quiet strength, enduring loyalty, and deep love for those around him. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Graveside memorial service will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 6, 2026 in Western Prong Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Nate Lynch.
