C.G. Townsend

Mr. Clarence (C.G.) Gordon Townsend Jr. 76, of Whiteville passed on June 29, 2024. He was born June 4, 1948 in Columbus County the son of the late Clarence Gordon Townsend, Sr. and Mabel Butler Townsend. 

C. G. received a bachelors degree from East Carolina University.  He was employed with UCB for 27 years as Vice President of the Trust Department.  He was manager of First Citizens Insurance Department and an agent with Professional Service Associates.  He attended Piney Forest Baptist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Matt Townsend of Whiteville, Alex Townsend and wife, Anna of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nick Townsend and wife, Abbey of Morehead City; grandchildren, Lawson Townsend,Griffin Townsend, Grady Townsend, Hadley Townsend, Harriet Townsend; brother, Gerald Townsend and wife, Katrina of Raleigh; sister, Cheryl Townsend Simonowich and husband, David of Greenville, NC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Worrell Townsend; grandson, Matthew Townsend, Jr. and his parents.
A memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 5, 2024 in Peacock's Chapel with the Rev. Willard Mcpherson officiating. His family will receive friends 1:00 - 2:00 pm Friday prior to his service in the Chapel.
