Cecil Evans

Mr. Cecil Evans 76, of Whiteville passed on Friday evening, May 19, 2023 at his home.  He was born November 12, 1946 in Brunswick County, the son of the late Bryom and Inez Long Evans.

Cecil worked and owned  Cecil's Carpet and tile, he installed carpet for over 50 years before enjoying retirement. He was a simple yet extraordinary man. He was loved by his family more than words can express. He was the best papa. He was known by his wife, Barbara, as her sweetie pie. He was one of Carolina's biggest fans and always said he would be in the Carolina blue sky one day, alongside Dale Earnhardt, he always loved Dale Earnhardt. This has left the biggest hole in his families heart and he will be missed beyond measure.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Babson Evans; two sons, Greg Smith of Whiteville, Derrick Smith (Cheryl) of Whiteville; a daughter, Debra Lynn Sellers of Whiteville; grandchildren, Dustin Smith, Shonte Nance, Holly Crowningshield, Adrian Day and Matthew Page; great grandchildren, Madison Nance, Bailey Nance, Hayden Nance, Layton Ray, Kassen Ray, Mia Crowningshield and Silas Page; great great grandson, Waylon Ray; niece, Rhonda Evans Wallace, niece LaDeane Halls; nephew, Rodney Evans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Beverly Smith Bass; a granddaughter, Tonya Ray; three brothers, Charles Evans, Coy Evans and Levy Evans; two sisters, Carrie Neil Evans and Faye Clewis.

His funeral arrangements will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Danny Gore officiating. Burial will be in Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends 2:00- 3:00 pm Wednesday prior to his service at Peacock Funeral Home.
