Cratie "Pat" (Babson) Hinson

Cratie “Pat” Babson Hinson, 88, of Whiteville passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, June 21, 2019.  She was born on October 15, 1930 in Brunswick County the daughter of William Albert Babson and Georgia Smith Babson.  She married Adom Crowell Hinson December 28, 1947.  Pat and Crowell celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Pat was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.  She loved the Lord fiercely and was never afraid to witness to someone when led to do so. 

Pat worked with her husband selling cookware for 23 years. They also farmed and maintained a large egg producing operation.  In 1972 Pat and Crowell opened Pinewood Manor Homes. They operated Pinewood Manor Homes together until Crowell’s death in 2001. Pat carried on the business until she decided to close it in 2003.

Pat traveled extensively with her husband, visiting locations such as Mexico, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, France, Hawaii and the Bahamas.  She and her husband loved Bluegrass music.  They traveled to many festivals to hear their favorite musicians. 

After retirement, she loved working in  her flowers. Strangers would pull up into her driveway just to look at the Amaryllis.  Pat always sent them away with a bulb or two. 

Having grown up near the Waccamaw River she developed a lifelong passion for fishing.  Pat also was an expert seamstress making many of her children’s clothes when they were little.  Pat  was very proud of her children, grandchildren and especially the great grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Anthony Crowell "Andy" Hinson of Whiteville, NC (of the home); four daughters, Sandra Wilkes and husband, Vince of League City, Texas, Sheron Roberts and husband, Jimmy of Whiteville, NC, Julia Beck and husband, Gerald of Shallotte, NC, Rebecca Lamm  and husband, Andy of Clarendon, NC; special family friend, Randy Hutchins of the home; grandchildren, Christy Roberts Sergeef, Vanessa Roberts, James F. Roberts, III, Adam Oren, Sarah Beck Moy, Benjamin Clark, Carly Clark; great grandchildren, Ian Kilz, Molly Roberts, Victoria Roberts, Silas Moy, Grayson Clark, Weston Britt, Trenton Britt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Crowell Hinson, daughter, Martha Renee Hinson and parents.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Brian, Lisa and other members of the hospice team.

Her funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church by Rev. Mike Bowles.  Burial will be in the Stanley Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Peacock Funeral Home.
