As a society we understand that actions speak more than words. It only follows that if you ‘want to judge a man's character, you look at more than what he says; you look at what he does.

Dewey Hill knew that to make his vision for his family and his Hometown a reality, it would take more than words, so he personally acted.

Dewey personally involved himself in the community at an early age starting his business career in his Father’s grocery business.  After taking over his business Dewey and Opal Hill started in the grocery business that resulted in a very successful 35 store chain known as Hill’s Grocery stores.  Later the family sold the grocery chain.  Several years later Dewey opened a five-grocery store chain for his retirement enjoyment. At Mr. Hill’s direction his stores will remain open serving his customers with business as usual, during this time.  There will be a moment of silence in each of the Hill’s Stores at 11 AM on Saturday, July 1st.

Dewey later became one of the most successful entrepreneurs, developers, and servants in Southeastern North Carolina.

As successful as Dewey Hill has been during his lifetime; he has never failed to demonstrate his love for his family, community, and fellow man. His generosity exceeds expectation for community involvement.

Dewey Hill will be remembered for those tireless efforts; together with his contribution to his Hometown Community, his service to his County, the State of North Carolina, serving as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for 20 years.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Friday June 30th 2023 at Peacock Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday July 1st 2023 at Whiteville First Baptist Church by Dr. Wayne Brown and Dr. Fred Senter.
