Mr. Donald Ervin Parnell, Sr. 64, of Nakina passed on Sunday, July 16, 2023 in Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House, Whiteville.  He was born July 3, 1959  to the late Rev. Buck Parnell and Ada Joyce Lane.

Donald was employed with NC Department of Corrections for twenty years.  He was member of the Columbus County Fair Board of Directors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Long Parnell; a son, Donald Parnell, Jr. (Windy) of Nakina; two daughters, Heather Parnell of Nakina and Linda Parnell Todd (Bradley) of Tabor city; a brother, Buckie Parnell (Tracey) of Clarkton, a sister, Debbie Yarborough (Joe) of Clarkton; grandchildren, Star Parnell, Brandall Parnell, Shane Dorsch, April Parnell, Kaylee Todd, three step grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, three nephews and two nieces.

His funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm  Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Nakina Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Roger Coffey and Rev. Anthony Rich officiating.  Burial will be in the J.M. Long Cemetery.

His family will receive friends at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 19 2023 at the church.
