Mr. Autry Dawsey 84, of Whiteville passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 in Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born December 7, 1936 in Freeman, the son of the late Allie B. and Gladys Dawsey, In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Rev. A.B. Dawsey, Rev. J. W. Dawsey and Rev. P. E. Dawsey.
He earned his BS degree from Lee College in Cleveland, TN. He was a native of Columbus County. Throughout his extensive business career, he provided employment to thousands of residents.
Autry was a two time recipient of the Governor's Order of the Long Leaf Pine. He served in the North Carolina Nursing Home Board of Examiners. He was also Past President of the Whiteville Lions Club.
Out of his love for his community, he donated the land for Waccamaw Bank and served as a founding board member of the bank.
As part of his ministry for our Lord Jesus Christ, he answered the call to provide the land for Northwood Church, where he too served as a founding board member.l
All of these achievements are worth merit but what the family is most grateful for is his acts of kindness and his investment into the lives of others. He spent a lifetime of privately meeting the needs of many.
He was a loving husband and father. Early in his life he was a recording artist. His hobbies were fishing and singing.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park.
Left to honor his life are his wife of 62 years, Faye Dawsey; one daughter, Kimberly Dawsey Honeycutt (Russell); one son, Autry Dawsey, Jr. (Kim); six grandchildren, Danica Honeycutt Lester (Titus), Cameron Honeycutt (Kristen), Autry Dawsey III, Chelsea Dawsey, Jarrison Honeycutt, Creighton Dawsey and Chaley Honeycutt and four great grandchildren.
