Gladys Alene (Lee) McDowell

Gladys McDowell of Whiteville died Friday, July 13, 2018 in Columbus Regional Healthcare.  She was born in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Clyde Lee and Ollie Dew Lee.  She was the widow of the late James McDowell.

She was formerly employed with Whiteville Apparel until her retirement.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Valente and husband, Al of Wilmington; a son, Nathan McCormick, Jr.  and wife, Lorraine of Winnabow; three sisters, Estelle Sellers of Albemarle, Betty Bordeaux of Lumberton, Jeanette Mims of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Bobbie McManus and husband, Mike of Waxhaw, H. R. White, II and wife, Molly of Knoxville, TN, Renee Molina and husband, Santos of Raleigh, Michelle Stupka and husband, Tim of Coal Valley, Il, Nathan McCormick III of Rocky Point; five great grandchildren, Hannah McManus, Barrett White, Hayden White, Samantha Sorrells and Aida Molina.

Her funeral service will be at 3:00 pm Monday, July 16, 2018 at Peacock's Chapel by Dr. Tommy Bryson.  Burial will be in Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park.

Her family will receive friends 1:00 - 3:00 pm Monday, July 16, 2018 at Peacock Funeral Home prior to her service.

Serving as pallbearers are H.R. White, II, Nathan McCormick, III, Joey Jones, Donnie Mims, Joe Eddie White, and Jess White.
