Gurney S. Freeman Obituary

Gurney S. Freeman, 80, of  Vanceboro NC, passed away Wednesday November 22, 2023. He was born September 23, 1943 in Columbus County NC, to the late Sylvester Freeman and Leta Patrick Freeman Jacobs.


He is survived by two daughters, Tracie Edwards (Matt) of Grimesland NC, and Caroline Quidley (Darren) of Vanceboro NC; two brothers, James Cephas Freeman of Bolton, and Anthony Dale "AD" Jacobs (Melissa) of Bolton; sisters, Irene Jacobs Young of Bolton, Joan Phyllis Murray (Ray) of Wilmington, Letress J. Hammonds (Randy) of Lumberton; one sister-in-law, Shirley Freeman of Bolton; three Grandchildren, Stephen Glenn Jr. of New Bern, Megan Jernigan (Joe) of Dunn, Katlyn Quidley of Vanceboro; four great-grandchildren, Story Glenn of Slippery Rock PA, Salem Jernigan, Lillian "Lily" Jernigan, and River Jernigan.


He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen Spell Freeman; step father, Lofton Jacobs; one brother, Wilton Ray "Foy" Freeman; two sisters, Mary Arrator Freeman Jacobs, and Denolis Freeman.


Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church in Bolton by Rev. Michael Jacobs and Rev. Priscilla Jacobs. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.


The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at 1:00 pm at the church.
