Helen Monroe Obituary

Helen Rose Clewis Monroe, 83, of Whiteville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior

on October 26, 2025 . She was born on February 23, 1942, to the late Lonzie and Ora Jane Clewis.

Helen is survived by the apple of her eye and only son, Thomas Gerald Monroe, and her beloved

daughter-in-law, Julie Ann Gore Monroe; two grandchildren, Brianna Rose Monroe and

Danielle Monroe Nolan (Daniel); and one great-grandson, Gatlin Michael Nolan, all of

Lake Waccamaw. She is also survived by her siblings, L.C. “Greg” Clewis (Kim) of

Shallotte, Jimmy Clewis (Cheryl) of Whiteville, and Earlene Clewis Noble (Woodrow) of

Chadbourn; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, and

church family who have meant the world to her over the years.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the multiple caregivers over the past several years as well as Lower Cape Fear Lifecare.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Lonzie Butler “L.B.” Clewis.

Helen graduated from Nakina School in 1960, where she was known for her talent on the women’s

basketball team. She spent her life working to provide for her family and retired from

the Department of Social Services. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church

of Whiteville, where she joyfully sang in the chancel choir until her illness prevented

her from doing so. Helen was truly a light wherever she went — she loved people,

dancing, singing, and sharing her kind and joyful spirit.

She will be deeply missed by all who loved her, but her family takes great comfort in

knowing she is now in the arms of Jesus — free from sickness and suffering.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at Peacock Funeral Home with

Rev.  Chris Eason, Rev.  Charles Cribb, and Rev. David Clewis providing the message at 3:00 pm, Friday, October 31, 2025. Burial will follow in Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park.
