James Council Obituary

James Lloyd Council of Lake Waccamaw passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025. He was born in Columbus County on September 11, 1933 to the late Marvin Council and Sally White Council. James was a proud veteran of the United Stated Army and a member of the American Legion Post 137. He was a recipient of the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award. He was involved for many years with the North Carolina Baptist Men and an active member of Hallsboro Baptist Church. For many years he was involved coaching youth sports where he was the first ever President of Columbus County Little League Baseball.


He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Council (Denise) of Granite Falls NC, Mark Council (Jodi) of Surf City NC; brothers, Paul Council of Lake Waccamaw, Marvin Lee Council of Lake Waccamaw; grandchildren, Caitlyn Council, Jon Council (Peden), Brett Council (Kendall), Jason Council; great-granddaughter, Elowyn James Council. James is also survived by a very special friend and companion of 29 years, Bonnie Prince.


He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Brenda Mae Council, Betty Starling; brother, Benny Ray Council.


His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Hallsboro Baptist Church with Dr Scott Lewis officiating.


His family will receive friends Friday, September 26, 2025 from 6:00pm- 8:00pm at Peacock Funeral Home.
