James Lucian Long

 James "Lucian" Long was born December 29, 1942 in Nakina, NC.  Lucian moved to Florida in 1960.  Along with his family he helped build "Island Shell Novelty."  Lucian drove the company semi truck and trailer up and down the East coast delivering shells and making sales.  After 25 years in the family business, Lucian started his own business tree trimming and landscaping.  He operated the business for 13 years with Betty by his side.  In 2006 Betty and Lucian retired and returned home to North Carolina where he resided for 17 years until his death.

Lucian was known for his infectious laugh, big smile, his love of life, his sense of humor, and his ability to have never met a stranger.  Lucian will be best remembered for his love of family, and for always being willing to lend a helping hand to others.

Lucian is survived by his wife, Betty Jacobs Long; three daughters, Pam Brown (Gary) of Samson, AL,  Jessie Long of Punta Gorda FL, and Renee Long Labrecque of Punta Gorda, FL; brothers, Woody Long of St. James City, FL, Larry Long of Bokeelia, FL, and Elvis Long of St. James City, FL; sister, Ernestine Squires of St. James City, FL; grandchildren, Chris Brown (Jaclyn), Christina Douglas (Ryan); great granddaughter, Clara Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Lucian was preceded in death by his parents, David Norman Long and Mary Gore Long; a sister, Frankie Ivy and nephews, Reggie Ivy and Bobby Holloway.

His funeral will be at 3:00 pm Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Peacocks Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Coffey officiating.  Burial will be in the Ward Cemetery in Nakina.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Monday, April 24, 2023 at Peacock Funeral Home.
