James Franklin "Jimmy" Roberts, Jr., 78, of Whiteville, passed on Friday, January 3, 2025, in Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born August 13, 1946, in Robeson County, the son of the late James Franklin Roberts, Sr., and Lillian Stanley Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the 240th
Assault Helicopter Company "Greyhounds." He retired from Georgia Pacific after more than 30 years. He was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, and served as a deacon. He enjoyed travel, camping with his children, and biking on his Harley. He was a member of a shooting club where he taught gun safety. He leaves behind his very special dog and pal Lui aka Boo-kie.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Sheron Hinson Roberts; a son, James Franklin Roberts III of Whiteville; daughters, Christy Roberts Sergeef (Emmanuel) of Wilmington, Vanessa Roberts of Whiteville, Denise Roberts Davies (Mark) of Raeford; a brother. Kenneth Roberts (Beth) of Wilmington; a sister, Jeanette Cole of Holly Springs. Grandchildren, Ian Kilz, Molly Roberts, Victoria Roberts, Daniel Davies, Christin Davies, and nephew and live-in caretaker Benjamin Clark.
A memorial service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Joshua Connor and Dr. Dave Heller officiating.
His family will receive friends 1:00 - 2:00 pm Saturday at the church prior to his service.
