Jean Suggs Gore Patterson, 83, passed away Sunday, July 16,2023, at Lower Cape Fear Life Center in Whiteville. She was born February 24, 1940 in Columbus County the daughter of the late Clifford and Mattie Milligan Suggs of Nakina, N.C.
She was preceded in death by Paul D. Gore, her husband of 15 years, and Christopher Patterson, her husband of 10 years.
Jean graduated from Nakina High school and Miller-Motte Business College in Wilmington,N.C. She played basketball in high school and college. She was employed as a payroll clerk for 16 years with National Spinning and in various departments with United Carolina Bank until her retirement.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Whiteville. She was a former member of the Professional Business Women’s Club and Whiteville Garden Club. She was an avid gardener, crafter and lover of animals, especially her dog, Bella.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday, July 20 at 11:00 at First Baptist Church of Whiteville with graveside service at Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by a daughter, Paula Gore McLelland (Randolph Straughan)of Raleigh; two sisters, Jeanette Suggs Stanley of Wilmington, N.C. and Gail Suggs Hawkinson(Murray) of Boone, N.C.;and two grandsons, Andrew Scott McLelland of Charlotte, N.C. and William Quentin McLelland of Hendersonville, N.C.;two nieces, Lynn McDowell and Bobby Harvey of Wilmington and Grey Hawkinson of Boone, N.C. And numerous great nieces and great nephews.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers: Aleisha Snowten, Annie Snowten, Willamena Strickland and Sabrena Givens. Also, to the numerous folks at Lower Cape Fear Life Care for their tender care and support. You are truly angels!
