Jewell Tison Williams, 93, passed away on March 15, 2021 surrounded by her friends and family at Catawba Valley Assisted Living at Rock Barn in Conover, North Carolina. She was born in St. Augustine Florida on June 6, 1927 to Dewitt Tison and Rosie Long Tison. Her mother passed away when she was two years old. She and her two sisters went to live with her maternal aunt, Emma and her husband Albert Mintz in Ash, NC. She later married Arthur Lee Williams and together, they had two sons. She worked alongside long-time friend Grace Young in the drapery business in Brunswick County, NC for years.
She accomplished so much in her life and did much of it as a single parent after losing her husband in 1965 in a farming accident. She was known as an accomplished seamstress. She also worked to help her son, Mitchell, in the startup of what is known today as Williams Plantworks.
In September 2018, after the destruction of her home of 70 years by hurricane Florence, she went to live with her son, Joey, in Taylorsville, NC. After suffering some significant health issues, she went to live nearby at Catawba Valley Assisted Living.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Williams, two sisters, Lois Rhuvene King and Doris Hamaker, one brother, Lloyd Tison, two half-brothers, Earl and Merle Tison and two half-sisters, Virginia Tison Butner and Ellen Tison.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Joey A. Williams and wife Renee of Taylorsville NC, and Mitchell L. Williams of Ash, NC. Grandchildren are Kelly Williams Patterson (Jeff) and Kristen Williams Icard (Daniel). Patrick Williams (Ashley) and Kyla Williams Sanders (Adam). Great-Grandchildren are Jacob and Josie Patterson, Claire and John Icard, Emily Norris, Kaylee and Nathan Williams. She is also survived by her nephew Edgar Tison as well as cousins Ruby Thompson and Bobbie Jean Russ.
The funeral will be a grave side service, held at New Britton Baptist Church in Ash, NC on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations in her honor to any non-profit area Hospice. The family would also like to extend a special word of thanks to the staff at Catawba Valley Assisted Living at Rock Barn and to the Carolina Caring Hospice staff.
