John Register Obituary

Mr. John Ellis Register "Jackie" passed away on September 12, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Bolivia, North Carolina.

He was born on September 20, 1945 in Weston Super-Mare, England. His mother Elsie Sarre married Ellis Jackson Register during WWII in England and Elsie relocated to North Carolina after he was born. 

He grew up in Crusoe Island, NC and attended Nakina High School. In the 10th grade he decided to join the US Army, in the 101st Airborne Division. He became a North Carolina Highway Patrolman, then years later becoming a US Customs Officer, from which he retired. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed restoring antique furniture. He was a Master Mason, a member of The Gator Clown Society and a Shriner. He returned to NC in 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Hanne Richards; step-daughter, Nina Wagoner (Nate) and step-granddaughter, London of San Antonio, Texas; his niece, Cherie Register of Crusoe Island, NC; and his daughter, Tammy Register Sarre of Jacksonville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis Jackson Register; his mother, Elsie Sarre and his brother, Timothy Thomas Register.

Funeral service with military honors will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, September 16, 2022  at Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church in Crusoe Island by Rev. Jamie Ward. Visitation will be at the church prior to the funeral service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Elias Register Family Cemetery in Crusoe Island.
