L.D. Baldwin, Jr.

Mr. Loyd Dewitt “L.D” Baldwin, Jr. 85, of the Whiteville, passed Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born September 1, 1935 son of the late Lloyd D. Baldwin, Sr. and Mabel Wright Baldwin.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He worked for the American Leigon Post 137 fund raising and coached youth baseball for more than fifteen years.  L.D. was inducted into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.

Mr. Baldwin was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Day Long Baldwin, his parents and a sister, Francis B. Kinard.

He is survived by two sons, Jere Baldwin and wife, Jamie of Stonewall, NC, Chuck Baldwin and wife, Susan of Whiteville; one daughter, Allyson Baldwin Scalf and husband, Mark of Hampstead; a sister, Carolyn Baldwin Creech and husband, Phil of Whiteville; five grandchildren, Madison Scalf Wingo, Jordan Scalf Sheeran, Brooks Baldwin, Tanner “Bud” Baldwin, Gage Baldwin; one great grandchild, Adalyn Wingo.

His Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Trinity Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Columbus Memorial Park.
