Mr. Lester Freeman, 89, of Buckhead, passed on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at his home. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late John Latney Freeman and Adalina Jacobs Freeman.
Mr. Freeman retired from Georgia Pacific after 37 years. He was a logger with P & L Trucking and a farmer. He was a member and Deacon of New Hope Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ressie Freeman; his parents; two brothers, Carlie Freeman (Amanda) and Thelton Freeman; four sisters, Lizzie Freeman (Joe Huggins), Betty Mitchell (Cleo), Nettie Mae Freeman and Retha Jacobs (R.C.); brother-in-law, Keith Massey; sister-in-law, Gerlene Freeman.
He is survived by a son, Peter Freeman and wife, Linda of Buckhead; a daughter, Leslie Freeman Jones and husband, Harry of Buckhead; two brothers, Narson Freeman and wife, Louise of Buckhead, Melton Freeman of Buckhead; four Brothers-in-law, James (Bip) Freeman, Frank Freeman, James C. Freeman, Edgar Freeman and wife, Darlene; a sister, Mertis Freeman Godfrey and husband, David of Alexis, NC; sister-in-law, Linda Freeman Massey; five grandchildren, Crystal Lynn Jacobs and husband, Gerald of Council, Douglas Blake Freeman of Buckhead, Heather Lenn Jones of Buckhead, Jonathan Lester Jones and wife, Kimberly of Buckhead, Anna Mercedes Freeman of Buckhead; four great grandchildren, Joshua G. Jacobs, Carlie J. Jacobs, Kenlie L. Jacobs and Maya J. Jones; his best friend, “TAZ".
His funeral service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday, September 27, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Don Carter, Rev. Mike Jacobs and Rev, Howard Jacobs. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
