Lewis Thomas Keeter, 81, of Nakina, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 18th, 2025 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System. He was born on December 21st, 1943 in Chowan County, NC. He was the son of the late Charles Norman Keeter and late Hilda Francis Langdale Keeter.
Lewis attended North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morgantown, NC, during 1940’s to 1960’s. During his early years, he took courses at a barber school and worked at a printing service in Charlotte, NC. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Food Lion in North Myrtle Beach, SC. He enjoyed traveling, being with his wife, and being with his “adopted” family. He also enjoyed visiting his Deaf friends and attending Deaf social events. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC, and Ocean View Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach.
He was survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Ann Soles of Nakina; a step-son, William Joe Reaves of Nakina; a step-daugther, Tina “Tiny” Allen Smith of Tabor City; and a “step” son-in-law, Raymond O’Neil Lee of Nakina. He had six grandchildren: Ryan Lee, Randall Lee, Erica Reaves, Matthew Smith, Alexis Andres, and Michael Smith. He also had ten great-grandchildren and multiple nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his step-daugther, Vicky Allen Lee; His brothers, Aubrey Chris Keeter and Norman Calvin Keeter; His sisters, Eunice Hughes, Mary Alice Bazemore, and Frances Lane.
His visitation will be held on Febuary 3rd at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville at 1:00pm, followed by funeral service at 2:00pm with Rev. Gary Ledbetter officiating. Meal and fellowship will be provided by Victory Baptist Church in Whiteville at 3:30pm.
