“Marceia Mae Cox went home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2023. Marceia or “Marty” as many people knew her, lived a very full life for 81 years. She was born in Somers, Connecticut, on April 30, 1942 the daughter of the late Leon Stratton and Edna Bryant Stratton.
She grew up on a farm where her lifelong love of horses and gardening began. As a young woman she traveled extensively across the United States and never lost her love of traveling or adventure even into her eighties. Marceia was artistic-working as a florist and interior designer for many years. However, her most fulfilling job was working as a nurse. She received her associate RN degree in 1992 from Southeastern Community College and worked for many years at Southeastern Regional Center in Lumberton, NC. She retired to take care of her husband, William “Bill” James Cox (deceased 2002).
She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Cox (Chuck) and Darlynne Dix. She has two granddaughters, Elizabeth Selens (Ryan) and Rachel Clough, and two great grandsons, Nolan and Weston Clough, sister, Erma Roland, as well as her dear friend Ken Brewer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" James Cox; her parents, a brother, David Stratton and a sister, Margaret Nerrill.
Visitation will be held at Peacock Funeral Home, Whiteville, NC at 1:00 pm followed immediately by her funeral service at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Peacock's Chapel. Burial will be in Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park.
