Mary Williamson Cartret passed away peacefully Friday, August 23, 2024. She was born in Columbus County on December 14, 1931, the daughter of the late George Cravelon Williamson and Edna Bellamy Williamson of Nakina, NC.
Mrs. Cartret was an educator at Nakina High School, Columbus County, for more than 30 years. She taught English, French, and History. As a librarian she shared her love for books. A trip with students to Washington D.C was a fond memory.
Professional memberships included Alpha Delta Kappa, National Educators Assocation, and North Carolina Assocation of Educators, District President. She was an avid lobbyist for public education at the state and national levels. After retiring from education, she started a new chapter as a real estate broker with Sand Dollar Realty at Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
Mrs. Cartret earned a bachelor's degree from High Point University. She cheerfully recalled her years at High Point and continued to hold dear the friendships she made there. She was a lifelong member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. As choir director, she shared her joyful spirit and love of music.
She is survived by her daughter, Renee Cartret of North Mrytle Beach, SC; daughter Rosemary Cartret Sizemore and husband Brad of Wilmington, NC. Grandchildren Ross, Taylor, and Reilly Sizemore of Wilmington, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt “RV” Cartret, and sister Catherine Williamson Gore.
Final rites will be conducted at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, August 27 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel in Whiteville, NC. Interment will follow on the grounds at Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Peacock Funeral Home.
