Mattie Rosalene Tyree Obituary
Mattie Rosalene Miller Tyree, age 97, of Whiteville, NC died Monday, November 1, 2021 in her home.
The eldest daughter of sharecroppers, Rosalene graduated from Whiteville High School at the age of 16. She married Joseph Brice Tyree at age 19 and after World War II set to work with him on the family farm growing produce and her family and a love for her community that would span multiple generations. Rosalene was woman of deep Christian faith and a farmer from dusk to dawn nearly every day of her long life. She was most proud of raising her two daughters and her two grandsons were the center of her world.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Tyree; daughter, Judy Harper, parents, R.B. & Pearl Miller; brothers, Roger, Sidney, R.B. Jr., Raymond; sisters Annie Mae Buck, Janie Wallace.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Tyree Bullock (Wayne Roberts) of Pawleys Island, SC; grandsons Franklin Joseph Bullock of Myrtle Beach, SC and Joshua Bullock of Pawleys Island, SC; Son-in-law, Donald Harper of Whiteville; Sisters Dorothy Reaves of Chadbourn & Vera Stanley of Clarendon.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in the Peacock Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Peacock Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
