Obituary
Myrtle D. Hammond 81, of Whiteville passed on August 2, 2023 at the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House, Whiteville. She was born August 4, 1941 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late E. Devon Duncan and Lula Hinson Duncan. She was the widow of the late Charles D. Hammond.
Mrs. Hammond attended Beaverdam Baptist Church. She received her nurses aid certification from Southeastern Community College.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis Long and wife, Vicky of Whiteville and Jesse Long of Whiteville;two sisters, Mildred Dudley of Whiteville and Edith Honeycutt and husband, Richard of Southport, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, a son, Benjamin Long, a brother, Larry Duncan.
Her funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buddy Seay officiating. Her family will receive friends Sunday 2:00 - 3:00 pm at the funeral home prior to her service.
Burial will be in Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park.
