Nora Ann Pait Obituary
Nora "Ann" Humphrey Pait, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Liberty Commons Rehab Facility.
Born on July 10, 1936, in the Buie community of Robeson County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Carson Hilbert and Gracie Worrell Humphrey. Ann was a proud graduate of Parkton High School, where she served as Valedictorian. A talented athlete in her youth, one of her most cherished memories was winning the Robeson County Basketball Championship during her senior year. Her love for the game stayed with her throughout her life as she spent countless hours cheering on her sons and grandchildren at local baseball and softball fields.
Ann dedicated over 40 years of service to the Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation before her retirement. Her commitment to her community was further evidenced by her 22 years of service as the Church Treasurer for Whiteville United Methodist Church, where she was honored as Member of the Year. She was deeply involved in the Adult Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women at both local and district levels, and was a member of the Reuben Brown House Preservation Society.
In her free time, Ann was known for her legendary pound cakes, her love of board games and bridge, and her quick wit while watching game shows. She took great joy in organizing class reunions and fundraisers, always looking for ways to help those in need.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, James Edwin Pait; and her sister, Mary Ellen H. McKeithan. She is survived by sons, Alan James Pait (Vickie) and Eric Edwin Pait (Tonya), both of Whiteville, grandchildren, Leah Pait of Raleigh, Kelly Pait Edwards (Greg) of Whiteville, Luke Pait (Kaylee) of Brown Summit, and Zach Pait of Wilmington; great-grandsons, Shepherd and Xander Edwards, Jack Easlick, and Grayson Pait; and siblings Nancy Fox of Aberdeen, Jean H. Grubbs (Glenn) of Pinehurst, and brother C.H. "Buddy" Humphrey (Linda) of Wilmington.
Her funeral service will be held at Whiteville United Methodist Church on Saturday March 21, 2026 at 4:00 with Rev. Howard James officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00-3:45 pm in the Church Fellowship Hall prior to her service. Interment will follow at Peacock's Columbus Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to the Whiteville United Methodist general Fund.
