It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Samuel Wright Freeman, who entered his eternal rest on December 7, 2025 around the hour 8:30 am. Samuel was born to Mildred and Arthur Freeman on October 30, 1954. Through his earthly journey was marked by deep valleys and heavy burdens, he has now stepped into the glorious light of his savior whole, healed, and finally home.
Samuel was a man who knew the Lord and believed fully in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. His heart carried a tenderness that many never saw, shaped in large part by the greatest tragedy a parent can endure, the loss of his only son, Curtis Blake Freeman, who was taken from this world far too soon at just 12 years old. Blake's death broke something inside him that never fully mended on this side of heaven. In his grief, Sammy struggled with addiction, seeking solace anywhere he could find relief for a wound too deep for earthly healing. Yet even in his darkest hours, Sammy never lost sight of the cross.
One of his final conversations was a testimony: that Jesus Christ went to the cross for him, personally and died for his sins. In that truth, he found peace. Though he wrestled with pain and battled inner storms, the worst thing Sammy was ever guilty of was trying, in his brokenness, to soothe a shattered heart. He harmed no one but himself.
Those who knew him intimately saw his humor, his love for his family, and his longing to be whole again. He never stopped believing that the Lord had not forgotten him. Today, we rejoice in the promise that he is finally healed. He is walking upright, unburdened, and redeemed on the streets of gold, reunited with his beloved parents and his precious son, Blake.
Every tear he ever shed has been wiped away by the very hand of God (Revelation 21:4). What this world broke, Heaven has restored. May his life remind us all that every story even the ones marked with sorrow is held in the hands of a merciful Savior. And may his passing be a sermon to us: that grace reaches deeper than our wounds, the Christ stands stronger than our struggles, and that no child of God is every beyond his redemption.
Samuel is survived by loving family and friends who cherish his memory and rest in hope that they will meet him again in Glory.
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." -Psalm 34:18
May his soul find eternal peace, and may his story forever point to Christ, the One who makes all things new.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 12, 2025 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Zachary Jacobs, Rev. Howard Jacobs, and Elder Michael Jacobs officiating.
