Shirley Dwiggins Hutchins, 79, of Chadbourn, passed away on January 29, 2026.  Shirley was born on January 12, 1947, in Winston-Salem, NC.  Shirley lived in Chadbourn from 1993 until 2024.

Shirley received an associate's degree in business from UNCG before marrying the love of her life, Buford Gray Hutchins.  While Buford went back to NC State University as a 23-year-old freshman, Shirley worked two jobs to put him through school.  Buford entered the textiles industry shortly after graduation, and life took them from Raleigh, to Concord, to Roxboro, to Little Washington, to Kenansville, and then finally to Chadbourn.  After moving to Kenansville, Shirley worked as a beloved homemaker and drove a snazzy “Mom Taxi,” a black Firebird.  She was always ready to volunteer to cart her kids and their friends around. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Spencer Dwiggins and Grace Williams Dwiggins, and her husband, Buford.

Shirley is survived by her children, Scott Lewis Hutchins (Lori Ann) of Wilmington, NC, Shana Renee Hutchins of Waxhaw, NC, and her adored grandchildren, Taylor Gray Hutchins (Braedyn), Lucas Hutchins Stewart, and Salem Grace Stewart. 

Visitation will be at Peacock Funeral Home on Friday, February 6, at 1 pm. 

Her funeral service will be held at the Peacock Funeral Home Chapel at 2 pm, with the Reverend Nate Lynch officiating.
