Stephen Barnhardt Obituary

Stephen Worth Barnhardt, age 87 of Delco, NC died Tuesday, March 7, 2023 in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center, Wilmington, NC. Worth was born on March 23, 1935 in New Hanover County to the late John Jacob and Clarkie Pierce Barnhardt.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Tuton Barnhardt of the home; his sons, Charles Worth Barnhardt and his wife, Dana of Delco, NC and Stephen Arthur Barnhardt and his wife, Robin of White Oak, NC; three grandchildren, Erin Barnhardt Allen (Parker), Sydney Lauren Barnhardt and Mattea Barnhardt and one great-grandchild, Teddy Allen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes Moore.

Worth, better known by his loving grandchildren as Pa, was a member of Riegelwood Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He received his Bachelor degree from East Carolina University. He owned and operated Pierce and Wyche Company in Delco for many years. He also retired from the US Postal Service as a mail carrier. Worth was an avid golfer but his greatest joy in life came from his time spent with his granddaughters.

His visitation will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Riegelwood Baptist Church.

His memorial service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Riegelwood Baptist Church with the Reverends Cameron Lewis and Scott Lewis officiating. The burial will follow the service at Delco Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers who helped look after and loved Mr. Worth. Those special caregivers are Darlene, Ruth, Frances, Marcie, Floretta, Barbara, Vonda, Ella, Mattea and Charles.
