William "Bill" Morrison Obituary

William "Bill" Hayes Morrison 85, of Lake Waccamaw moved into eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 8th, 2023. He was the son of William Luther Morrison and Ellen Elizabeth Ware Morrison and was born in Hampton, Virginia on August 26, 1937. After a troubled childhood and youth, Bill was called by God to full-time service. He completed his high school through the American Correspondent School, earned an Associate Degree from Lees McRae Junior College, a Bachelor in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, and attended Columbia Theological Seminary. While in Seminary, God led Bill to Lake Waccamaw where he worked with about 3,000 young people during his 43 years at Boys and Girls Home of NC. He served as Sunday School teacher, treasurer, deacon, elder, and pulpit supply minister (for 55 years) in the Presbyterian Church.

Bill loved sports and excelled in all of them. He played youth league football, city league baseball, and slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball (from age 8 to 75), He coached various for 65 years. He married Barbara Ann Scott in 1962; their marriage lasted over 60 years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Morrison of Lake Waccamaw, NC; sister, Ann Morrison Grasty of Williamsburg, VA; brother, Walter Ware Morrison (Nancy) of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Mary Morrison of Greenville, NC; grandson, Terry Barnhill, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; granddaughter, (by marriage) Amber Barnhill of Wilmington, NC; grandson, Steven Barnhill of Greenville, NC; great granddaughter, Aurora Barnhill of Wilmington, NC; sister-in-law, Joan Layman of Mount Airy, NC.

A celebration of life and legacy will be held at 3:00 pm May 11, 2023 at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church at 623 Warrior Trail Rd in Whiteville, NC (formerly Waccamaw Academy location) with Pastor Scott Crabtree officiating.

Visitation with the family will be from 2:00-3:00 pm Thursday May 11, 2023 in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Boys & Girls Homes of Lake Waccamaw.
