Willis Burroughs Obituary

Willis passed away at Columbus Regional Healthcare on Saturday, December 11 at the age of 91. Willis was born on April 1, 1930 in Columbus County. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years Shirley Burroughs, sons Layne (Lora) and Brett (Shawn) Burroughs. Willis will be remembered fondly by his seven grandchildren, Cameron, Reagan, Luke, Ashleigh, Piper, Indiana, and Trinity. He is predeceased by father Garland Burroughs, mother Lizzie Burroughs, brothers, Wade, and R. J. Burroughs.

Willis, a lifelong resident of Williams Township, is remembered by the community as the owner and operator of Burroughs Tire Service for the last 70 years. Willis was also a co-founder of the Williams Township Fire Department, where he served as fire chief from 1972 to around 1985.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Peacock Funeral Home.

A funeral service in memory of Willis will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm, at the Lebanon United Methodist Church on highway 701 south of Whiteville, with Ricky Parker officiating and Karl Zorowski, Phillip Norwood, and Travis Wilkerson assisting. Graveside service will follow in the Lebanon United Methodist Cemetery adjacent to the church building.
