David Joseph Long
Mr. David Joseph Long, 83, of Nakina passed away peacefully at his home M0nday evening May 2, 2016. He was born in Columbus County, the son of Major McKenzie and Maggie Clark Long.
Mr. Long was a graduate of Old Dock School and a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War. He owned and operated Long's Seafood Restaurant from 1956-1982. He also farmed all of his life until his retirement. He was a member of Seven Creeks Missionary Baptist Church of Nakina.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorcas Jenette Long of the home; son, David Arnold Long of Nakina; daughters, Pamela Long Stanley of Olyphic and Kimberly Long Holmes and husband, John of Whiteville; grandchildren, Jenny Godwin and husband, Jamie and Maggie Stanley; great-grandchild, Colton Godwin; sisters, Maeve Duncan and husband, Pete of Tabor City and Evelyn Jones of Whiteville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ernest, Orby, Major and Wade Long.
His funeral will be 11:00 am Friday, May 6, 2016 at Seven Creeks Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Turner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
His family will receive friends 6:00- 8:00 pm Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Peacock Funeral Home.
